A new acoustic CD of songs by David Williams in the Americana vein: folk, old-timey, gospel, rockabilly, alternative country. These songs (which trace some of the same characters and territory of David's soon to be released book- INDIAN BINGO - award winning short stories through Ghost Road Press )--tell the stories of David's original homeland of Joplin, MO, where his family has lived for generations. These songs are performed on guitar, four & five-string banjo, fiddle, mandolin, steel guitar, standup-up bass, and clarinet, and many feature the phenomenal singer, DARCY PEREZ (who has been described as a cross between Gillian Welch and Natalie Merchant with a touch of Nora Jones). Other world class musicians who appear on the album are Duane Webster, Julia Hays, Bill Pontarelli, & Jax Delaguerre.

INDIAN BINGO: short stories by David Williams

From the back cover of the book: Darkly comic and emotinally ripe, Indian Bingo weaves the parallel narratives of an extended family set in the rustic Ozark Mountains. From firm superstition to mid-life crisis, these memorable stories --with their long journeys and deep longings--unfold on every page. The charcters confront their own entranched beliefs when asked to make difficult choices, allowing for turning points, second chances, and transformed lives. And the one thing that inextricably links them all is that old pastrime of letters and numbers: Bingo, a comforting community ritual that shows our capacity for optimism and our hope that better days are yet ahead.

David Williams: Singer/Songwriter

Where the Dark Road Starts

Intelligent, edgy, these songs tackle the many sides of love. Acoustic, folk-blues, swing, gypsy jazz—the music in "Where the Dark Road Starts" covers a range of musical influences.

"I've seen a lot of singer-songwriters pass through over the years; most of them quickly forgotten. But every once in awhile, someone rises up with a real talent for lyrics, and such a talent is David Williams."

"Route 66 was a ribbon of concrete that ran from Chicago to L.A., connecting cities and towns, crossing through the broad middle of America. The "Old Road" was a wonderland of neon signs, Ma and Pa motels, sleepy diners and tourist traps; it was a highway of adventure and escape, a lace where one could be on the move, going to or coming from the American dream. As kids, we traveled 66 every year, leaving Chicago to go back to Missouri. For us, 66 was magic. The one true road that could take us "home."My hope is that these songs reflect some of the character of the Mother Road -- the people and places along it -- and that the songs resonate some of the hopes and desires, the failed promises, and the longing for return that those who follow the Old Road yet feel."
