About David Williams

David Williams is a singer and multi-instrumentalist -- guitar, mandolin, tenor banjo and violin. His musical influences include everything from Gypsy Jazz to Delta blues, bluegrass and folk.

As a singer-songwriter, he is known for his way with words and his melodies, which conjure up the American musical landscape. His songs touch on everything from the travails of love to the people and places along Route 66, to a carnival from his childhood -- to the swing tunes of Tin Pan Alley.

Over many years David has studied the passionate guitar work of the famed gypsy swing instrumentalist, Django Reinhardt, and he currently performs this infectious, lively musical mix of American swing with European gypsy shadings in concerts throughout the United States. Williams incorporates his own swing songs written in the 30s style.

In the past, David has recorded and performed with people such as Greg Brown, and Dave Moore. He also studied with the great mandolinist Jethro Burns. David has played many of the large folk music festivals, such as Vancouver and Winnipeg, where he has been recognized for both his songwriting and instrumental work.

About the Hot Club of the Rockies

The Hot Club of the Rockies plays in the style of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli: Gypsy Jazz, acoustic swing-jazz played on string instruments. Gypsy Jazz originally developed in France, built upon the foundation and songbooks of American jazz.

It is a wildy infectious style, full of both hot licks and tender ballads, and it is currently undergoing a renaissance world-wide. The Smithsonian Institute recently launched a traveling exhibit called “The Jazz Age in Paris,” for which the HOT CLUB OF THE ROCKIES performed.
