A new acoustic CD of songs by David Williams in the Americana vein: folk, old-timey, gospel, rockabilly, alternative country. These songs (which trace some of the same characters and territory of David's soon to be released book- INDIAN BINGO - award winning short stories through Ghost Road Press )--tell the stories of David's original homeland of Joplin, MO, where his family has lived for generations. These songs are performed on guitar, four & five-string banjo, fiddle, mandolin, steel guitar, standup-up bass, and clarinet, and many feature the phenomenal singer, DARCY PEREZ (who has been described as a cross between Gillian Welch and Natalie Merchant with a touch of Nora Jones). Other world class musicians who appear on the album are Duane Webster, Julia Hays, Bill Pontarelli, & Jax Delaguerre.
INDIAN BINGO: short stories by David Williams
From the back cover of the book: Darkly comic and emotinally ripe, Indian Bingo weaves the parallel narratives of an extended family set in the rustic Ozark Mountains. From firm superstition to mid-life crisis, these memorable stories --with their long journeys and deep longings--unfold on every page. The charcters confront their own entranched beliefs when asked to make difficult choices, allowing for turning points, second chances, and transformed lives. And the one thing that inextricably links them all is that old pastrime of letters and numbers: Bingo, a comforting community ritual that shows our capacity for optimism and our hope that better days are yet ahead.
